Parents of students who were involved in the so-called ‘pencil incident’ related to the Seoi Elementary School teacher who died due to extreme choice filed a lawsuit against about 20 netizens.

The pencil incident occurred on July 12th, when a first-year student at Seoi Elementary School suffered a cut on his forehead while trying to stop a student from stabbing his bag with a pencil. Teacher A, who was the homeroom teacher of the class in question, was found dead on July 18, six days after the pencil incident.
The Seoul Teachers’ Union claimed that Teacher A received strong protests from parents during the case handling process. The bereaved family also reported that Teacher A suffered from anxiety during his lifetime due to complaints from parents.
On the other hand, as a result of the police’s analysis of calls, texts, and HiTalk (work messenger) between the parents and the deceased, as well as the testimony of fellow teachers, no acts of abuse of power equivalent to criminal charges, such as threats or obstruction of official duties, were confirmed.
At the request of the bereaved family, the police expanded the scope of the investigation to the class attended by Mr. A last year. Additionally, the policy is to look into all issues raised in class.
